Sea
Kayaking
Imagine
exploring the seas the way the Inuit have done for thousands
of years. Experience this adventure with an Inuit guide who
is able to share with you the ancient ways of his people. You
and your guide can choose to hug the rocky sea edges, explore
ice floes, paddle near such marine mammals such as bowhead whales
and narwhal, or traverse open arctic waters. Sea kayaking in
the North is a spellbinding adventure!
The North is a wonderful destination for experienced Arctic kayakers. Outfitters
can take you to the floe edge in late spring and early summer,
but always exercise caution in your kayak. Whales can appear
unexpectedly and ice floes can drift quickly because of changes
in wind direction. August is the best month for kayaking. Don't
forget to bring your fishing gear, photographic equipment and
an adventurous spirit!
Canoeing
For a serious
canoeing challenge, you may want to consider a canoe trip along
one of the remote rivers of Nunavut. A canoe is an ideal vantage
point to take in the beauty of the surrounding landscape and
to get close to wildlife. You will also encounter white water
on most of the rivers, a thrill for any skilled canoeist.
If you plan to mount a self guided tour. You will need to plan your adventure
well and provide yourself with adequate supplies, maps and food.
Safety in numbers is critical, and you should consider going
with larger groups of at least six paddlers, in large sturdy
canoes. Along your journey, you can stop into an Inns North
hotel for a nice hot meal and respite in our well appointed
rooms.
