Arctic Animals and Lands - Birds |
|
If you come here with bird watching in mind, you will not be disappointed. From the hauntingly beautiful Snowy Owl to the huge Gyrfalcon, there are winged wonders at every turn.
There are several recognized bird sanctuaries in Nunavut. If you are coming to the Arctic to see the abundant bird life the best time is generally mid-May to August. Migratory species return in large numbers during this time. It is not uncommon to see hundreds of thousands of nesting seabirds in a single location. The experience can be truly staggering.
While many of the bird species found in the Arctic are familiar to birders around the world, there are few place that equal the opportunity to view them in such massive numbers.
